The Estonian Filmfestival would not have been feasible without the Munich Municipal Library who helped with words and deeds, auditorium, technical equipment, personnell, program, Munich ticket office, contacts and more. So we thank the people from Municipal Library who are dedicated to the ideal that culture is not luxury but needed for our every day lifes like air and water.

The idea of an Estonian filmfestival came up when Signe and me came together at a dinner with Mart Laanemäe, the Estonian ambassador in Germany, who encouraged us to become active for the spread of Estonian culture in Germany by ourselves. As I am a long-term fan of German and Israeli films, it seemed likely to present a piece of Estonian culture, a prospect of the land and it's people, by presenting films to Munich public. During the intensive preparation of this festival I more and more became a fan of Estonian films, too. I was pleased to present here some great artists and their work from my homeland!

When I heared that Tallinn was going to be European Capital of Culture in 2011, the idea didn't get out of my mind to give birth to a cultural event in Munich, too. When Karin spoke alongside about her long-term desire of presenting Estonian films of a high artistic level in Munich - this was the hour of birth of the Estonian filmfestival.

It is wonderful to move and enrich life by your own active doing and letting! Thanks to all those who benevolently and actively supported us!
